Two more recent masterworks conclude our season. The great Austrian organist and composer of the 19th century, Anton Bruckner, has written a brilliant mass setting for choir and orchestra, which allows the voices of the choir to come into full bloom, especially in the opening of the Sanctus, in a cappella manner with added force from the orchestral forces for special emphasis. We are honored to have guest conductor Robert Simpson, Artistic Director Emeritus of the GRAMMY-winning Houston Chamber Choir, conducting this monumental work.

Ola Gjeilo is a Norwegian-born composer and pianist renowned for a wide palette of lush, cinematic choral works and evocative piano compositions blending classical, jazz, and film-score influences. Based in the US, he studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Juilliard, and the Royal College of Music, and serves as composer-in residence with DCINY. Acclaimed pieces include Dreamweaver and Serenity, with recordings on Decca Classics such as Night and Dawn. We are honored to present his Sunrise Mass, perhaps one of the finest contemporary settings of the Mass text.
